James Jean, Takashi Murakami, Gainax (the team behind Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Mike Mignola sold me on the idea that you can be bigger than just an illustrator, or a fine artist, or a cartoon show or a comic book artist. You can become a brand and do whatever you want.
As far as music goes (while working) I usually listen to any good instrumental music. Nujabes and Jan Jelinek are in constant rotation right now.
I’d say the most influential artists to my work are Sterling Hundley, Moebius, Bernie Fuchs, Al Parker, Robert Heindel, Brian Saunders, Mike Mignola, Bill Sienkewicz, Satoshi Kon, David Lynch, Mike Mignola, Hayao Miyazaki, Dave Stewart, Katsuhiro Otomo, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Degas, Gainax and Nicole Hamilton.
